Discover the Icons of Peru; Colonial Lima, Giants of the Amazon Rainforest and the Incas of Machu Picchu, Cusco and the Sacred Valley

Founded in 1535 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, Lima is rich in history and full of incredible attractions and things to see. Here you will be introduced to modern-day, Colonial and ancient Peru in the company of your own local expert guides to explore the city and it's most famous landmarks and museum.  From Lima, take a flight to Puerto Maldonado and a short boat trip down the Amazon river to a luxury jungle lodge. There is no better location in the world in which to get back to nature and marvel at it's spectacular diversity than in the Amazon Rainforest. Spend several days connecting to the natural and cultural wonders of the Tambopata jungle, observing the wildlife and observing the ancient indigenous heritage. Cruise the river, paddle the lakes and walk through the trees in search of a myriad of rainforest species, including the giants of the rainforest, the huge Kapok trees.

Since the time of the Incas, the Sacred Valley of Peru has been a place of fascinating diversity and  culture. Agriculture and people have thrived here for many generations and a fascinating local culture has developed. Here we will see some of the greatest icons of Peru; discover Ollantaytambo Fortress, travel by train for the best views of the Andean mountains and explore the spectacular Inca city of Machu Picchu. Rediscovered by Hiram Bingham more than a century ago, Machu Picchu is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Here you explore the ancient city, walking in the footsteps of past inhabitants to experience the city streets and buildings with their astronomical alignments, fabled ashlar masonry and panoramic views for yourself. We will also enjoy some of the much smaller details of the Sacred Valley; learning to cook in the traditional way alongside the Ccorccor people and observing their way of life.

The city of Cusco is famous for it's cobbled streets and outstanding architecture. With incredible views across the red tiled roofs to the distant Andes, this is a beautiful setting to take in the aromas, tastes, sights, and colours of the local products of the Cusco region. With your own Big Journey Company Tour Director along to assist with the preparation of your holiday and on hand during your stay in Peru, there can be no more relaxing way for you to to explore your way through the Icons of Peru.
